Week 7 (Fashion Photographers)

Steven Miesel

Background:
An american photographer who works on fashion industry. He has shot a plethora of fashion campaigns for brands like Versace, Valentino, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton, Miesel really came to prominence by shooting a series of covers for both American and Italian Vogue. At a young age, his magnetism towards models and beauty started. He ignored playing with toys unlike most children, instead his interest lied in drawing women with inspiration from magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. As his first job, he worked as an illustrator for Halston, a fashion designer. On a part time basis he was a teacher of illustration at Parsons. He developed an interest in photography and appreciated photographers like Bert Stem, Irving Penn, Jerry Schatzberg and Richard Alvedon.

Reflection:
I like how Steven Miesel shot all the picture. He makes emotions from all his photos. He describes fashion with unique ways. He didn't use mainstream place to shot his photos. He plays with the tone colors and makes stories from his photos. He shows us the feeling from that fashion. Like feeling cool, elegant, more comfy, more gorgeous, classy etc. He also plays with the lighting and the fashion's details itself. Most of his photos that he took was a woman because woman can describe the beauty of the fashion. I think why he has choose as a magazine famous photographer and branded photographer is because he can makes the brands looks elegant, unique and has their stories behind.
